Mr Serkan Hussein was born in Sydney, Australia, in 1980 to Turkish Cypriot migrants. Serkan spent most of his life growing up in Melbourne where he completed his Secondary Education, and then a Bachelor of Business Information Systems and a Professional Writing course at Victoria University.

Serkan Hussein

Serkan's passion for the Turkish culture grew stronger during his tertiary years. His will to portray the Australian-Turkish youth of today as 'contributors' led him and a friend to establish the Victoria University Turkish Club (Club Rakkas) in 1998. Serkan held the title of President for two terms.

In 2003, Serkan and a group of other Turkish Cypriots founded the North Cyprus Turkish Youth Club at the Turkish Cypriot Community Centre in the suburb of Sunshine. The Youth Club picked up the pieces of a previous group that had not been active for several years. Serkan served as the President of the Youth Club from 2003 until 2007.

During the time as President Serkan studied the behaviours and history of the Turkish Cypriot community. Serkan befriended many older community members and began his research. His love for history and politics fuelled his search for answers. The desire for answers also led him to the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) in 2004, after a 21 year absence.

After travelling far and wide, the migration experience of the Turkish Cypriot community in Australia was officially recorded by Serkan in his first publication - Yesterday & Today

Serkan currently is responsible for the Marketing and Sponsorship role with the 60th Anniversary North Cyprus Turkish Festival Committee. He is also working on his second publication.
